Wear Red Day

Some special days are symbolized with the color red. Red is associated with Christmas and Saint Valentines Day at first instant. However there is one more special day associated with the color red, 6th of February which is the national wear red day.

Why do we wear red on 6th of February? To show our support for awareness of women’s heart disease risks. Red dress is the symbol of the ‘Heart Truth’ campaign sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Severa partner organizations also support the Heart Truth campaign. The aim of the campaign is to wakeup women to be aware of the risk factors for heart diseases and to take action to control these risks. Heart diseases are the number one killer of women.

The Heart Truth organized some special events on the National Wear Red Day in previous years. Fashion industry and celebrities has also supported the campaign. Last year, the Red Dress collection of top designers, such as Donna Karan, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs were presented by 15 celebrities an models, such as Heidi Klum and Sara Ramirez. Also, Liza Minelli supported the campaign with her songs at the end of the show.  Another organization of the Heart Truth is the American First Ladies Red Dress Collection. The exhibition of the red dresses of American first ladies can be visited at National First Ladies’ Library in Canton, Ohio until May 29, 2009. The red dresses of seven of American first ladies will welcome you to remind women’s heart disease risks.

The red dress has been the national symbol for women’s heart diseases since 2002. On the first Friday in February, National Wear Red Day is celebrated and people show their support to the campaign by wearing red dresses, red shirts, suits and red ties. The Red Dress pin also serves as a symbol and a red alert to remind women of their health. The message of the Heart Truth through the red dress pin is, “Heart disease doesn’t care what you wear – it is the #1 killer of women.”

This year, Swarovski will co-sponsor The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection 2009. The red dresses and red jewelry created for The Heart Truth will be debuted at New York Fashion Week.

To support the campaign which makes women aware of their number one killer and the actions to be taken not to be one of the victims of this killer, we invite everybody, both men and women to wear red on the National Wear Red Day. Wear red dresses, red shirts, red ties for women’s health on 6th of February. At least buy and wear one of those lovely red dress pins. The color of love, red is also an alert for our health.

Now it is time to wear red. Wear red for your health on 6th of February, National Wear Red Day and wear red for your love on 14th of February on Saint Valentines Day and care for your heart.
